When my youngest son wanted to start home school early to be like his big brothers, I rummaged through my maths curricula and found that I didn’t really like any of them. Most of the homeschool ones were from overseas and most of the Australian books were either designed for class room use or were brief summary books designed as homework supplements. Australia desperately needed more home school friendly maths curriculum choices.
Deep down I had always known this and that I have the background to write one. Friends, family and even complete strangers had suggested that I write one many times but I lacked the confidence and made the excuse that I didn’t have time. But once I started making custom worksheets for my youngest son, those excuses just couldn’t hold water any more.
So, here we are. Milestone Math, an Australian, print-based home school friendly maths curriculum was born in June of 2024. With the support of home school families like your own, it will continue to grow until it is a full K-12 maths solution for Australian home educators. It is also an ideal and economical alternative to tutoring for ‘regular’ school children.
As a busy home school mum I needed something that is low prep, builds independence and teaches the basics thoroughly through short lessons that are fun and engaging to avoid the dreaded “math wars”. So that’s what I designed. I believe Milestone Maths fills a long-standing gap in the Australian home school landscape and I hope it will help smooth your home school journey as well.
