Description
Milestone Maths is a home-grown, print-based maths curriculum designed especially for Aussie homeschoolers and written by an Australian homeschooling parent. The short, engaging, multisensory lessons aim to build mathematical thinking and independence in learning as quickly as possible. The professionally printed and spiral bound workbooks with laminated covers are sturdy, lay flat and fold back on themselves to stand up to the most demanding homeschool ‘classroom’ be it at home or on the road.
Milestone Maths B1 is intended for the average student in term 1 of Year 1. At Milestone Maths, we understand that homeschool life can be hectic, so we’ve built flexibility into every aspect of the program. The workbook contains 40 lessons: allowing 4 lessons per week of a standard Australian school term. That gives you one day per week for homeschool meetups, excursions or for life. It also means that should you feel your child needs to “catch up,” the task is much easier than if we had scheduled lessons for five days per week.
Of course, as a homeschooler, your child is free to learn at their own pace, so we recommend that you select the level that best suits their current level of skill and knowledge. Please see our placement guide for advice and feel free to contact the author if you need further assistance. We also offer a free marking and assessment service for the placement tests. My son and I have really enjoyed this math book! I was so glad to find a minimalistic design—it’s simple and clear, making it easy for both a child and a parent to follow without feeling overwhelmed. We especially enjoyed using Sumstix for hands-on learning.
After finishing this book, my son can now quickly and confidently do addition within 10, and his number writing has improved as well.
I love the concept of milestones and building a strong foundation before moving on to harder concepts. It’s so systematic and structured—just as maths should be! 🙂 As a mother of three, I also appreciated that lessons didn’t require much prep. It was great to have both hands-on learning with the counting rods and an easy, low-prep approach. I’m so grateful to have found this book and look forward to continuing with the next ones!
